📊 Climate Facts to Know
Ocean Heatwaves Have Tripled in Duration Since the 1940s
A recent study reveals that the climate crisis has tripled the length of deadly ocean heatwaves since the 1940s. These prolonged marine heat events are significantly harming marine life and intensifying extreme weather events. Driven primarily by the burning of fossil fuels, global warming has made approximately 50% of marine heatwaves since 2000 more likely to occur. These heatwaves are now about 1°C hotter on average, with some regions, like the Mediterranean Sea, experiencing spikes up to 5°C.
